HUSK (Housing Unicorns Solidarity Kittens) is an autonous network that uses unused buildings in Naarm (so called Melbourne) to create spaces exclusively for people that face gender based oppression, including but not limited to: cis sexism, misogyny, intersexism, transphobia, and transmisogyny.
HUSK is a diverse community and includes folks who identify as: Queer; sex workers; differently abled; gender non conforming; and people of colour.
People involved in HUSK are interested in a variety of things, most especially supporting survivors of trauma and abuse, as well as creating safer spaces for people affected by intersectional oppressions, including those who are homeless, isolated or needing support to find housing and community.
We support the struggle against capitalism, patriarchy, nationalism, fascism, queerphobia, transphobia, whorephobia, racism, colonialism, borders, prisons, and structural hierarchies.
HUSK is not open to anyone who has perpetrated emotional, physical or sexual abuse.* We also don’t want anyone’s presence to be questioned based on other people’s perceptions of their gender.
Please contact us if you are interested in getting involved, or come hang out in our residents’ space. There are no participation requirements to being a part of the HUSK community.
*We define abuse as an ongoing pattern of harmful behaviour by a person directed towards another person or group, usually also involving a power imbalance (which the perpetrator takes advantage of).
